QLD is the only state in Australia not to allow rate payers who are not permanent residents to vote. This large group  (up until now ) have never had a voice. That's now changed and these tourists come investors who pour millions upon millions of dollars into our economy are just starting to hear about the Douglas Shire Ratepayers Association and paying the $10 to join up. One of those is Wendy Oliver who with her husband Rainer spends half the year in the Douglas Shire and pays the very high rates imposed by the Douglas Shire Council. She believes that it's just plain un democratic that ratepayers like her can't vote in the upcoming Local Government Election on March 28th. She chats to Paul Makin
