Sparks flew as Councillor Noli locked horns with Mayor Michael Kerr today over the Economic Development Officer's role at Council. The Mayor pointed out to the Councillor who the EDO needs to report to and it's not the Councillors. An Enviro 'Hero' honoured, A road alongside the prawn farm gets an historical name, a tour bus deal with the ferry charges, Mossman Pool encourages visits and learning to swim by dropping entry charges, Diggers Bridge to get a facelift all in the name of 'Love', The Sugar Wharf continues to be improved PLUS more. The First Public Consultation Meeting into what the Shire wants to go over the Daintree River was held in Port Douglas today. The last survey was only 117 people. Now every ratepayer has a chance to have an imput. One Ferry, Two Ferries OR a Bridge. Your pick! Three speakers from Council laid it all out in simple terms. (In Order) Gaye Scott – DSC Community Liaison Officer, Colin Chalmers – DSC Asset Management Officer (Manages the current Daintree Ferry contract) and Scott Hahn - Manager of DSC Project Office. Tropical North Queensland will become the very first place on earth to host a COVID-Safe country music festival, with The Savannah Summer Series landing in Cairns and Mareeba this October 1-3. Sound Australia says festival organisers were able to quickly postpone the full weekend event to 2021 and announce they will keep the music playing in a COVID-safe way for 2020 at the same time giving the Far North the first taste of what’s to come next year. Lee Kernaghan will head up a long list of hot Aussie country acts, including Australia's hottest country stars Casey Barnes, newcomers The Buckleys, SaltbushSix, The Roadtrippers , The Ayres Rockettes and Camille Trail.
