QLD is the only state in Australia not to allow rate payers who are not permanent residents to vote. This large group  (up until now ) have never had a voice. That's now changed and these tourists come investors who pour millions upon millions of dollars into our economy are just starting to hear about the Douglas Shire Ratepayers Association and paying the $10 to join up. One of those is Wendy Oliver who with her husband Rainer spends half the year in the Douglas Shire and pays the very high rates imposed by the Douglas Shire Council. She believes that it's just plain un democratic that ratepayers like her can't vote in the upcoming Local Government Election on March 28th. She chats to Paul Makin

From sport to the environment from arts to volunteers, it was all there on display. A standing room only crowd gave all the winners a big reception. Seems we have a new Sheriff in town. It's official and you are hearing it first on Tourist Radio FAB FM's Podcast. The Douglas Shire Ratepayers Association is finally here and they say they want to be an advocate for the payers of rates in this Shire who up until now have had no real voice when it comes to the Councils decisions. The new Douglas Shire Ratepayers Association want to change that. Sylvia Healy is President of the DSRA  and she told our Paul Makin that the ratepayer landscape is about to change in a big way.
