While Council is negotiating to buy a block of land in the Douglas Shire to continue their carbon credits/carbon neutral scheme in the future, a Cairns real estate agent says there is no end to the number of uses for a large chunk of rural real estate in the Shire that he has on the books. He has released details of a unique 40.47ha parcel of land close to Port Douglas. The property is between Bonnie Doon and Killaloe Dump roads and off the Captain Cook Hwy. it could accommodate a 1500m runway if there was a need. An airport in the future perhaps?

Ben Eggleton the 'Bard From The Scrub' writes about Domestic Violence in The Douglas Shire. Domestic Violence is at last being addressed in the Douglas Shire with The Regional Domestic Violence Services officially opening their Douglas Shire office in Mossman to show that they are here to provide a safe place to go for victims of domestic violence and for them to seek out support services. These are battered women and terrified kids. The office is on the corner of Mill Street and Junction Road. In the last 12 months, according to Queensland Police Stats 72 domestic violence order applications were made in Mossman and a further 23 applications in Port Douglas during that financial year. These orders were contravened 87 times, an increase of more than 14% on the previous 12-month period. This week our Bard From the Scrub has written a poem about this awful situation.
