Blues is deeply embedded in his DNA, having been a lifelong passion fired up by his dad. He and his comrades set the stage for one of the most celebrated blues havens in all of Australia, right in the heart of Williamstown, Melbourne., and it's still going. During the 1980's Australians took the TV show A Country Practice to their hearts. Wandin Valley had it's local cop in the shape of Sgt. Frank Gilroy played by Brian Wenzel. Well in Port Douglas we have our own version of that fair dinkum country policeman in Sgt. Damian Meadows and like his TV counterpart he has a great love for his patch and the people who live in it. A man who works closely with the community and provides policing at a grass roots level. His journey to get to Port as it's 'Top Cop' is a very interesting one. Captain Ben McPhee has been part of this very successful year and despite only arriving in the far north in 2022 he's risen quickly through the clubs ranks to become a true leader. Ben grew up on a dairy farm in Victoria and never imagined he'd end up in Port Douglas but it has been a journey filled with success. At this years Douglas Australia Day Awards a young lad by the name of Lewis Marano took out the Junior Sports Award. Lewis is a football champion who won the golden boot and most valuable player at a soccer carnival attended by more than 500 participants. From Douglas, he represented Cairns in Townsville and won the Crad Evans Cup with his team. Along with his soccer achievements, Lewis has also made representative teams in cross country, touch football, athletics, and futsal.
