Gary McIlroy (Gazza) kicks off the day at Douglas FM with his very entertaining Breakfast Show five days a week. Gary moved to Port Douglas in 2018 after having presented an afternoon radio show across NQ from Innisfail. His radio career started in 1985 at the age of 18 and saw him working in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. Gary was once a long distance runner and has many strings to his bow.  Now he, his wife and parents call the Douglas Shire home. Host Steve Barrett chats with this self confessed radio junkie to find out the whole story and it's a compelling one.

At this years Douglas Australia Day Awards a young lad by the name of Lewis Marano took out the Junior Sports Award. Lewis is a football champion who won the golden boot and most valuable player at a soccer carnival attended by more than 500 participants. From Douglas, he represented Cairns in Townsville and won the Crad Evans Cup with his team. Along with his soccer achievements, Lewis has also made representative teams in cross country, touch football, athletics, and futsal. On this Douglas Conversations podcast Lewis chats with host Steve Barrett about his life and future goals.

On this podcast Steve Barrett welcomes Gail Cockburn to the Douglas Conversations microphone. Gail is the Douglas Shire Volunteer Of The Year for 2023. She's an extremely hard-working volunteer archivist for the Douglas Shire Historical Society. She spent many hours setting up a database for all the artefacts which is now accessible to via the Society’s website. The Society is extremely proud of her incredible efforts. Gail has served the Douglas Shire Community as a volunteer over many years.

Douglas Conversations with Steve Barrett and John and Annette Anich 12-7-23

John and Annette Anich have had a remarkable life and are stalwarts of the Douglas Shire. Cane farming, running a Apothecary and always generous in all their endeavours. John Anich was awarded an OAM in the 2003 Queens Birthday Honours for service to the community of Mossman through aged and youth welfare organisations. The Anich's have made the Douglas Shire better over many decades. Douglas Conversations with Steve Barrett is heard every Wednesday at 1pm and repeated on Sundays at 3pm on Douglas FM

He's been in the Australian media for 60 years and now Paul Makin is a volunteer with Community Radio Station Douglas FM in Port Douglas conducting 'Makin in the Morning' program between 9am and noon Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays. He has been instrumental in the setting up of this community asset and is now passing on all that experience in the form of training for volunteers who have put their hand up to go on air or do something behind the scene.  Steve Barrett himself was taught by Paul in the ways of radio before his first program went to air. In this episode the tables are turned and Steve asks the questions of this media stalwart.
