Paul talks to former race caller Bryan Martin about the arrest of Australia's biggest horse trainer sending shock waves through the racing industry only just recovering from another scandal.

Victoria Police say the raids on Darren Weir's two stables were part of a Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit investigation into alleged corruption in racing. In a statement, police said that Weir and the other men were arrested for questioning as part of an investigation into suspected offences including:

• obtaining financial advantage by deception
• engaging in conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome
• use of corrupt conduct information for betting purposes
• attempting to obtain financial advantage by deception

Tony Duffy, Alicia Smith and family plucked to safety by the SES Rescue Helicopter 27Jan2019

Tony Duffy & Alicia Smith along with their three young children, Willow 2, Indiana 4, Ryder 6 and their dog Dusty, have been rescued from a property north of Daintree Village after a friend alerted authorities.

 

Torrential rain forced them from their managers cottage into a lodge on higher ground. The couple lost all their possessions and were facing another night with very little food when they were plucked to safety by the SES Rescue Helicopter.

 

Paul’s been following the story all day and finally sat down to chat with them after their harrowing experience.
