Multiple Golden Guitar winner, singer, songwriter Tom Curtain is one of our finest singer songwriters, that's a given but he's also a man of the land with an amazing knowledge and skills with horses and dogs. So mix that with his musical tralents and you have one hell of a travelling show. That show called the 'NOTHIN'S GONNA STOP US' Tour is on the road for six months starting in the NT and finishing up in South Australia. Finally he's close to us. It will also promote his latest album of the same name. It becomes abundantly clear when listening to his new 10-track offering its a rousing snapshot of life in outback Australia.

The Shire lost a stalwart of the Port Douglas Crocs last Thursday the 22nd September. Kenneth Leslie Skinner died peacefully in Mossman Hospital. He was 73. However, Kenneth Skinner was better known as Kenny the Croc, the Port Douglas Crocs mascot for many years. Kenny would lead out the team in his croc suit and hi-five them onto the ground. He was also popular with the kids. Kenny and kids got along so well he took a personal interest in their sporting future through the Port Douglas Junior Crocs AFL Club. It’s estimated he raised $100,000 or more when he started a regular raffle at the Central Hotel. Paul Makin chats with cousin and best mate Gil Julin about Kenny's early days and how this real natural born character ended up in Port.

He is not only a living legend of Australian music but a living treasure. The ever young Lonnie Lee was born on the18th September 1940 and has fronted Lonnie Lee and his band The Leeman until recently
He is a pioneer of Australian rockabilly music but conquered pop and country as well during his over 6 decades in showbusiness. At the peak of his career, Lonnie had eight top 100 singles, which included three top 20s, "Ain't It So", "Starlight Star Bright" and "I Found a New Love". He achieved five gold records.
Lonnie grew up on a sheep farm in Rowena, New South Wales but in 1956 he competed in a radio talent quest, 2UW's Alan Toohey's Amateur Hour, where he came second. In February of the following year, he won a contest for "Australia's own Elvis Presley" and was soon managed by fellow rock 'n' roller, Johnny O'Keefe who managed to get his rising star signed to Leedon Records. TV appearances followed such as Six O'Clock Rock and Brian Henderson's Bandstand. During the 1960s Lonnie Lee toured the United Kingdom and United States before settling in the US from 1971 recording and writing songs. His songwriting included work with Roy Orbison who he also managed for a time. In 2007 he toured with fellow performers Crash Craddock, Bobby Vee and Lesley Gore from the original rock'n'roll era and many still say he was the stand out on that tour.
It was an historic tour as 49 years before, he had toured with Craddock and the Everly Brothers. In 2022 he is still performing and has just celebrated his 82nd birthday with a brand new concept show that started with a sliding doors moment as he prepared to travel to Tamworth. When Adam Harvey suggested to his friend Beccy Cole that cutting a new album together could be the best medicine, Beccy jumped right in and naturally a tour had to come out of it. The Great Country Songbook Volume 3 comes out Sept 9th and that National tour will start on the same day. Adam Harvey is now a country music legend. Gold and Platinum albums, 9 x Golden Guitar awards and a CMA Global Country Artist award and a recent #1 ARIA album, 'Songs from Highway One' took home the gong for Traditional Country Album of The Year at the 2022 Golden Guitar awards. The curtain has gone down on the recent smash hit run of Priscilla Queen of The Desert at the Clink theatre. The 'SOLD OUT' musical and success is still reverberating among audiences. In fact, this production by the Douglas Theatre Arts Group has tongues wagging for all the right reasons. Word of mouth ran rampant. Musical Director Alteouise DeVaughn, who has some 40 years’ experience in theatre, has her theories on why Priscilla hit the mark. Thank the good Lord Mike Kuster has finally started to do what he should have done more than twenty years ago. Make great country music. He'll tell you of course that it was all worth it because he married a real 'darlin' and raised three fine kids in that time BUT us country fans were robbed of his presence in the genre. This man has a real contribution to make in good 'traditional' country music, which in some circles is a dirty word these days but Mike doesn't care and neither do we.
